Reviewed: The Wooden Block Set from Lovevery

Lots of us looking for ways to keep our toddlers busy but with their minds expanding so quickly, we can find ourselves in a neverending cycle of buying more and more plastic toys when our little one gets bored after a few weeks.

Lovevery aims to solve that: a wooden block set that can be used from 18 months-4 years and designed to use in 20 different ways so the set will keep growing with your child. We put the kit to the test with our almost 2 year old and loaned it to his 2.5 and 4 year old cousins to see if it was suitable for different ages.

How does the wooden block set from Lovevery work?

The wooden block set consists of 70 substantial wooden pieces in rainbow hues and in 18 different shapes; such as shapes with holes for threading string and poles through, imaginary play figures, building blocks, and shape sorting bricks. All housed in a wooden storage box. Both the storage box and blocks feel substantial and made to last-a a marked difference from plastic lego or cheaper bricks.

The play guide included also talks about the different ways to use the blocks. In the simplest forms, you can use them as straightforward building blocks but there’s so much more you can do with them: threading them on the string poles is great for building fine motor skills and the storage box can be converted into a pull along car by adding the circular blocks to aid imaginary play.

My little boy can’t enough of this set and it really is perfect if you struggle to keep them engaged. Firstly, I loved how they came with so many different ways to use it-I’m always struggling to come up with new ideas when it comes to Jude and the ideas are great for helping language (I’ve talked about Jude’s speech delay before) and building other skills such as imitation (through doing different actions with the blocks) and imaginary play (with the figures and cars).

Jude enjoys just building the blocks but we’ve started some of the other ideas, such as building a ramp and pushing the wooden car along. He loves doing all the different block activities, such as shape sorting and threading, and I feel like we’ve got so much more to explore with them as he gets older and more confident!

They store easily away in the storage box and look so much nicer than regular plastic boxes in your living room (the organiser in me does enjoy colour coding them when I put them back in). I loved how the set also come with a drawstring cotton bag which I use to take a handful of the bricks out and about or to my mums who looks after him.

I get the feeling the set will last years and years. We also learned these to my niece and nephew who are older and they also really enjoyed playing with them-showing that they are great for growing with your child.

Verdict

There’s no denying the Lovevery blocks are a little more expensive than your average building blocks but the value for money they offer is actually really great. Not only are they really designed to last but the sheer variety of activites that can be done with them means they’ll constantly provide variety for your play routine and teach your little one so many skills along the way. A must-buy.
