Struggling to find time to cook healthy, organic nutritious toddler meals? Or struggling to meal plan for a toddler who is avoiding certain allergens? Enter Mamamade, a baby food start-up that aims to build a new system for the modern parent: creating meal boxes for babies and toddlers, to support the different stages of the weaning process.

The brand prides itself on ensuring all meals are prepped not processed, using over 80 nutritious ingredients throughout their recipes – all of which are 100% organic, fully plant-based, and free from the ‘Top 8 Allergens’ which include milk, soya, and peanuts. What’s more, all Mamamade recipes are specially created by professional chefs & expert nutritionists.

There’s a range of 45 diverse meals and finger foods, available to order directly via the website, with the option of purchasing pre-made bundles on a one-off or subscription basis, with an additional option to curate individual meal plans that best suit your little one’s preferences.

Unlike many children’s food brands, Mamamade also uses 100% recyclable packaging and operates a zero food waste policy. All very impressive credentials but let’s see how our toddler tester found it?

The verdict: my review of Mamamade toddler meals

When the package arrived, I was impressed-there looked like a lot of variety and the portions seemed plentiful; my son has a healthy appetite and I notice some toddler ready meals are tiny! The meals all looked great and nutritious-meals that were packed with veg but I knew I wouldn’t have the time to make them from scratch. There was everything from beetroot slides to lentil shepherds pie and kale pasta. It made such a change from the usual toddler ready meals-which are often limited in choice and just quite boring! For once, I didn’t feel guilty heating one up (which can be done in the microwave or oven). My son has an egg allergy and I’m gluten and dairy-free. So much contains egg so it was reassuring that I didn’t even need to look at the labels for a change- and I could actually eat his leftovers. A gamechanger for allergy mums!

We are not a vegan family, however, so I did wonder how my son would fare with the meat-free meals but he seemed to really enjoy them. The lentil shepherd pie was a huge hit and is definitely something I’d order again (or attempt to make in the kitchen!). If your child enjoys picky finger type foods, we also enjoyed the beetroot sliders or the pasta and mushroom meatballs-great alternatives to things like chicken nuggets if your child enjoys things to pick at like my son does.

I was really surprised by how well my son took to the meals. I will admit the brownies weren’t a huge hit (he’s used to the sugary highs of regular biscuits I think) but the ready meals went down a treat and were a godsend for busy working days when I didn’t want to worry about what to cook. If you are looking for nutritious, organic ready meals or are an allergy mum looking for foods catered to being free from all 8 major allergens I’d definitely recommend Mamamade. Whilst it would be pricey to buy weekly, I can definitely see myself ordering again when I know I have a busy few weeks coming up and don’t have time to meal prep. Since the range also includes purees for weaning babies too, I think they’d make such a great gift for a busy mum too!
