As part of a series reviewing toddler toys, today is the turn of Junior Rainbow Pebbles by Edx Education; who have a range of toys that centre around beads, rods, and pebbles and encouraging little ones to get creative when using them.
We reviewed the Junior rainbow pebbles which are designed for 18 months and onwards. Inside is a bag of jumbo pebbles in six different colours and three different shapes (circular, rounded and thin sausage-like shapes), along with a selection of bright vibrant prints on sturdy card. The idea is to use the pebbles to match the shapes on the card, as you would do a puzzle but you can also use the pebbles for so many other things such as stacking, rolling or even adding to a water/sand table or a tuff tray.

These pebbles were a really big hit with Jude, who is almost 2. He loved matching the shapes and it’s a really great way to introduce vocabulary around matching colors and shapes, which he seemed to pick up really quickly. As well as matching them to the card, you can also introduce things like sorting the pebbles into different colours and shapes.
The cards are really vibrant and bright so Jude also loved looking at those and the pebbles are really sturdy (they’re made of lightweight plastic, so they feel as if they’re built to last but aren’t heavy at all) so he loved stacking and throwing them.
My niece and nephew also borrowed the toy (they’re 2.5 years and 4 years old respectively) and were equally as impressed: as they are older than Jude, they enjoyed racing each other to make designs the quickest! Although the premise of the pebbles is really simple, I feel like it’s a toy that can grow and grow with your child, and even when your little one has outgrown the card matching, the pebbles themselves can be used for all sorts of things.
