Introduce your baby to swimming with this free at-home event

With swimming pools currently closed due to lockdown, and many parents and baby groups canceled, Becky Adlington and her company ‘Becky Adlington BabyStars’ are hosting the ‘Big Baby Splash Session’ to get parents together online, provide tips on sensory and stimulating activities which can be done in the bath with babies using household objects, discuss the importance of both mum and baby entering water safely and also take part in a live Q&A for all your burning questions around baby swimming.

Olympian Becky Adlington invites you to join this fun and educational Instagram Live event with Becky and Swim England Licensed Baby and Toddler Swimming Educator Lynn Kelly . Mums, dads, and their little ones will splash around in the bath and learn essential tips on how to get mum and baby into the bath safely and grow your baby’s confidence in the water – all from the comfort of your own home.

The session will help new parents of babies aged 0-3 to ensure their baby is water confident – despite not being able to take them to a pool. Tips and tricks will be given including how to help babies splash in the water, how to incorporate household toys such as ducks and floats, and how to get babies moving and interacting in the water, as well as providing reassuring ways for new parents to enter water areas safely.

Parents are being encouraged to watch or take part while bathing their babies and also ask questions to understand more about swimming for babies, and the impact of this both physically and mentally.

Becky Adlington, Olympian and founder of Becky Adlington’s Baby Stars added: “We know the pressures that new parents face, and with most facilities closed due to lockdown, we wanted to create something fun and educational for new mums and dads to get involved in.

“Lockdown can increase feelings of isolation and loneliness, so this is a great opportunity for parents to get involved in a fun activity online, whilst also learning about the fundamental life saving skill of swimming.

“As a mum myself and with another child due any day, I’m so passionate about getting babies in the water and developing their swimming skills from a young age. Even though we’re in lockdown, babies can still be gaining water confidence in the bath.”

The event takes place on Wednesday 10th February. 1pm – 1.30pm on Instagram and is free to attend. Just follow Becky Adlington Swim Stars on Instagram and to learn more about the baby swim programme and register your interest, please visit their site.
