We all have a story to share and different passions to express. For some, it’s family videos whilst for others it’s journaling. Blogging essentially helps you merge the two-to keep both a visual and written record of your family as it grows. Not only does it help us get in touch with our hidden creativity but it also gives us the opportunity to inspire others. There are lots of other benefits of starting a mum blog like sharing your motherhood experience, trying new things finding an online community, and for some, starting a mum blog also because of an income stream.

You may be wondering what you can write that has any interest for others or what you should blog about? But the thing is, there are so many topics to choose from and writing doesn’t need to be difficult. Simply start with what you love to talk about and you’ll find your path along the way. Here are five tips for any budding mum bloggers.

1. Create content to help others

Think about the blog posts you create and try to make them things others have googled in the middle of the night-whether that’s breastfeeding tips or dealing with toddler tantrums. “If you’ve googled it, other mums will too!” advises blogger Fox and Flora. “Don’t avoid blogging about topics that may be controversial, such as choice of sleeping arrangements or choice of feeding your baby. 2. Share your own journey to make a connection

Picking blog post ideas may seem like an easy task, but it can be quite hard to come up with something that is not too generic or clichéd. One of the best ways to come up with a unique idea for your blog post is to take an experience from your own life and mold it into something that you will enjoy writing about. When you make it personal, people will be more likely to find it interesting on a personal level.

3. You don’t need to spend much money

Starting a blog may not be as expensive as one might think it would be. There are many free blogging resources that can help you create your blog online. There are also many free wordpress themes to choose from once you use wordpress.com or wordpress.org. If you are on a budget, then there are still ways to start your blogging career without having to pay anything. I use Lyrical Host which is a very cost-effective blog host. Using the free version of Canva is a great way to design your logo for free.

4. Figure out a monetisation strategy

There are many ways to make money blogging. Some of the most popular ways include affiliate marketing, advertising, sponsored posts or even selling products.

The most important thing is to figure out what you want to do with your blog and then figure out how to monetize it successfully. Be careful not to accept every single other that comes your way. “I’m very picky about that stuff. I only want to promote and share brands and products that I truly believe in and that I’ve tried myself” explains bridal blogger Jessica Bishop.

5. Consider how much of your life you want to show

“Decide from the start if you’re going to change your kid’s names or use the nicknames-that way it’s the same from the start explains blogger Steph Moore, www.notgotaclue.com Some bloggers are happy to show their children’s faces whilst others, especially with older kids, prefer to keep their identities secret. It’s completely up to you what you do but remember about the power of the image. “Really, be careful with what kind of photos you post. Your photos will be findable via Google and anyone, including people who might not have a good intend, can find them.” advises blogger Monethalia.
